CIR has everything you need to know about the rumor that the Indians and Pirates are talking about a trade of Matt Lawton for lefthanded pitcher Arthur Rhodes. I have been on record advocating a trade of Lawton if someone was willing to give us a dozen baseballs and a used glove for him, but Rhodes sounds like he might be washed up. You decide.

Why don't you like Lawton?
Posted by: Steven J. Kelso Sr. at December 9, 2004 11:47 AMMostly because he costs us 7 million dollars and takes playing time away from one of our promising young outfielders. If we were going to contend for something in 2005 (which I don't believe we are) it might be different. A veteran player and a solid bat in the lineup would be an asset. But even that is questionable, since Lawton is such a bad defensive outfielder that he cancels out some of his offensive production. I'd rather see Crisp, Ludwick, Gerut and Sizemore, or even Casey Blake get the outfield playing time. Thanks for stopping.
